100 Conversations - Amelia's Shave for Kids Helpline
In December I'm shaving my head to raise money for Kids Helpline.
I'm 16, so shaving all my hair off is a pretty big thing for me. That's one of the reasons I decided to do it. If I'm asking people to donate, I wanted to do something that genuinely challenges me and hopefully gets people talking about something that really matters.
Mental health affects so many young Australians. Sometimes people around us can be struggling much more than we realise, and asking for help isn't always easy.
Kids Helpline gives young people aged 5–25 somewhere they can turn 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with qualified counsellors available by phone and online.
In 2025, Kids Helpline responded to 128,998 contacts and carried out 5,190 crisis interventions. Demand is so high that only 58% of young people who reached out received support.
Kids Helpline says $55 can fund a counselling session.
So I've decided my first goal is $5,500 - enough, based on that figure, to represent 100 counselling conversations with young people who need someone to listen.
100 conversations. That's what I'd love my hair to achieve.
If you're able to donate, thank you. If you can't, sharing my page could help it reach someone who can.
I'll be posting updates between now and December - and then the hair is coming off.

With 75% of all responses by Kids Helpline counsellors happen in the evening or on weekends, your support is what allows us to respond in those critical after-hours moments. In 2024, 43% of Kids Helpline’s funding came from the community. With your help, we’ll continue to be there – every minute, every hour, every day. The next young person who needs help might be someone you know.
